KAYLA WAVE. JURGENS - CHÁATL DU TLÁA ( MOTHER OF HALIBUT )

I am currently located in Huntingtown, MD with my husband, four children, and our pack of pups. My work is inspired by my upbringing in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. From a young age I remember the moss between my toes, catching salamanders, collecting foliage, skipping around streams, and chasing frogs. I am a member of the Tlingit tribe of southeast Alaska and my Tlingit name is Cháatl du tláa, meaning "Mother of the Halibut".

I started Fox and the Fawn at a pretty difficult time in my life. My best friend had tragically died and I realized evil existed. Anxiety stricken I put all of my fear into this amazing terrifying new art. I wasn’t afraid of the fire, the hammers - the loudness was poetic. I fell in love with the Phoenix like art and dived so deep I weaved it into my soul.

In December of 2014 I was honored by being featured by Etsy, wanna see the interview?
